Cleaning the hearing aid

Try to regularly check and clean your hearing aid and its accessories. Often lukewarm water works well to wash away wax residue and minor discoloration. Be careful not to soak the electronics, only the hearing aid accessories. If you have water in your hearing aid, you can use an air blower to blow the water out. If there is minor wax residue or other dirt, a small brush often works well to brush this off your hearing aid.

Dehumidify your hearing aid

If you have soaked your hearing aid, it is important to dehumidify it from water before using it again. For example, you can use a sealable jar along with drying capsules to dehumidify your hearing aid. You place the hearing aid in the jar and add one or two desiccant capsules, depending on how wet your hearing aid has become. Then leave it for a few hours and you will notice when the capsules have changed to a transparent/white colour, they have absorbed a lot of liquid.

Cleaning In-the-ear hearing aid

Wipe your in-ear appliance clean with a cleaning cloth or rag. If there are small wax residues left, the easiest way to remove them is to brush them off with a small brush. Wax filters should be changed regularly to prevent wax from entering the hearing aid. How often you need to change depends on how much ear wax you have, but we usually say every two or three months is quite reasonable.

Cleaning Behind-the-ear hearing aid

Wipe your hearing aid clean with a cleaning cloth or tissue. Accessories such as the sound tube and domes can be washed with lukewarm water to remove discolouration and wax residue. When the plastic starts to harden or crack, it's time to replace it. To maintain good hygiene and hearing quality, it's a good idea to replace domes and tubing at regular intervals. A small cleaning needle can be useful to get into small spaces of the tubing and hearing aid. Wax filters should be changed regularly to prevent wax from getting into the hearing microphone in the ear. How often you need to change depends on how much ear wax you have, but we usually say every two or three months is pretty reasonable.
