Domes for hearing aids

You can find domes for all makes and models of hearing aids with us. We sell most domes as 10 packs or 6 packs and at low prices.

How often should you change the dome in your hearing aid?

If you've got some earwax on your ears, you can often wash it off on your own or with a cleaning tool. If you wash your domes with water, be sure to wipe them clean before reattaching them to your hearing aid. When the domes start to harden or become discoloured, it's time to replace them with new ones. We recommend that you regularly check your domes and replace them to reduce the risk of infection and to maintain good hearing quality.

What are domes?

Dome is a soft rubber plug that sits at the end of the sound tube and is placed in the ear. It is used both to hold the speaker unit in place in the ear and to protect against earwax. Domes often come in different sizes to match the size of your ear canal. There are also different dome designs to help your type of hearing loss. For example, there are open and closed domes depending on the severity of your hearing loss.

Difference between open and closed dome?

The open dome has a number of openings to let in natural sound to a greater extent. A closed dome is instead closed, with slightly smaller holes. This means that the natural sound does not get through as easily and instead you get an amplifying effect from the hearing aid sound. In general, closed domes are suitable for those with a more severe hearing loss. For those with severe hearing loss, there are also Power or Double domes which have an even more closing effect.

What size domes should I choose?

Often there are sizes between 6mm up to 12mm where it is referred to as XS, S, M and L. Which size fits your ears is best to measure together with your audiologist and it is not uncommon that you can have different sizes in each ear. It is important to choose domes of a size that feels comfortable to use over a long period of time, choosing either too large or too small can often be experienced as irritating to the ear. Consult your hearing care professional about which size is right for you and which model of domes will fit your hearing aid.
